The “Peter Barca for Governor” Facebook campaign was started by grassroots activists in an attempt to urge Peter Barca to run for governor of Wisconsin in 2014. The group, which is not affiliated with Rep. Barca, currently has 590 members. But that number may grow, as the group has just gotten a nod from a well-respected member of the national media.
From David Nir via Daily Kos Elections Morning Digest, 1/10/13:
WI-Gov: I’ve regularly spoken out in favor of using social media to promote “draft” movements for candidates favored by the grassroots, so I’m happy to call attention to a new one. Local activists in Wisconsin are promoting the candidacy of Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca for governor, as a possible opponent for Republican Scott Walker in 2014. Barca has been a vocal critic of Walker’s ever since the latter took office, and the absence of prominent names eager to take on the incumbent could make Barca an attractive choice. I haven’t seen any word from Barca yet as to whether he’s interested, but hopefully this draft effort will make him take notice.
Personally, I like Peter Barca, in part, because he was the voice of so many of us at a time when we really did not have a voice:
If you’d like to join the Peter Barca for Governor FB Group, click here to send a request to the administrator. Who knows if this will work, but it’s certainly worth a try.
It’s nice to see this Facebook group recognized, but David Nir is a year late! The Peter Barca for Governor group started last year because we wanted Rep. Barca to run against Gov. Walker in the recall election. After the recall failed, the group continued to exist and then its advertised purpose was changed to urging Peter to run in 2014. The level of enthusiasm was a lot higher last year than it is now, but I still like Peter a lot and he may still be our best choice in 2014 (assuming that Russ Feingold won’t run).
Chris,
Thank you for the info!
